Our Speaker

Joe Atkins

Dakota County Commissioner

A lifelong resident and small business owner, Joe Atkins has dedicated himself to Dakota County. He went to both University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate with magna cum laude honors. For 25 years, Joe has owned and operated his small business and been a partner in Rogosheske, Rogosheske & Atkins in South St. Paul, one of Dakota County’s oldest law firms.

Prior to serving on the Dakota County Board, Joe Atkins served as the Mayor of Inver Grove Heights for 10 years then as a state legislator from 2003-2017. In the legislature, Joe represented residents of Inver Grove, South St. Paul, West St. Paul, Eagan, Mendota Heights, and Sunfish Lake. He was elected to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners in 2016, where he has since served the 4th District and now the 2nd district.

Joe Atkins and his wife Julia live in Dakota County and have been married 30 years with three children.

Every spring, DARTS hosts a breakfast event featuring a thought-provoking speaker, a room full of 200+ community members, and an opportunity to give back. The annual fundraising breakfast brings together companies and individuals who believe the aging journey matters. We are all aging – join us to enrich that journey for all!
